Sheep Shearing Day at ALF Return to Corriedale PageThe photos for this shearing day were taken Feb 23, 2002. Many thanks to everyone that came that day and helped! You are most appreciated! It was a beautiful day that day, but very breezy and sometimes on the cool side. The sheep and goats were happy to be getting out of those heavy fleeces. Matt Logsdon arrived with a truckload of shearing equipment and quickly set to work. The sheep were sheared first, then the goats because the sheep require different blade equipment than the goats. The white animals were sheared first, then the colored. The floor was carefully swept between each shearing, and each bagged fleece was weighed and recorded for each animal's personal record. The bagged fleece then went to the skirting table, where lots of hands carefully skirted out the dung tags, belly wool and felted areas. After a final handpicking, the fleece was bagged and weighed. THANKS to Joan for taking such great pictures! (*click* on the thumbnails to get a larger view)
